A paper mill was looking for a solution to prevent set screw loosening on the sticker wheels. Set screws were used to hold bearings on shaft and the loosening of set screws was causing the roller bearings to spin on the shaft, damaging both the shaft & bearing. This necessitated costly repairs and 10 hours worth of production loss on every instance of failure.

Loctite 222
Loctite 222 threadlocker was used to fix the issue. Post cleaning the surfaces, Loctite 222 was applied on the bearing set screw. The product occupies all the gap between bearing set screw and through hole and cures in the presence of metal ions to form a hard thermoset plastic which prevents self loosening.
