Situation:

A CNC machine manufacturer was having problems with leaking window gaskets that permitted coolant leaks and allowed rust to streak the paint finish on the metal doors.

Substrates: Mild Steel || Tempered Glass (Sekurit)

Challenges:

The manufacturer was facing the following challenges when using cork gaskets for sealing glass windows:

  • Compression sets in cork window gaskets permitted coolant leaks that allowed corrosion to start
  • Rust formation on cut metal edges would streak the paint finish lowering quality appearance
  • High inventory costs to maintain cork gaskets for all of the different equipment window applications

Solution:

Post consultation by the Henkel solutions expert, the manufacturer tested Teroson MS 930 modified silane structural bonder for sealing the glass windows against coolant leaks and rust streaks.

Post initial cleaning of the parts, Teroson MS 930 was dispensed on the perimeter of the door frame and the window was pressed into place. After 24 hours the excess material was cut with a sharp knife. During testing it was found that the seal formed by Teroson MS 930 was able to resist coolant leaks.

Results:

Bonding and sealing with Teroson MS 930:

  • Formed a chemically resistant durable seal that eliminated coolant leaks
  • Eliminated the need for previously used window mounting hardware
  • Improved the exterior machine appearance
