Situation:

An equipment manufacturer making cabins for construction equipment was searching for a new windshield bonding adhesive that would allow them to meet a planned production increase.

Substrates: Steel || Laminated Safety Glass (Windscreen)

Challenges:

The manufacturer was using a competition solution which had the following challenges:

  • Competition sealant cured slowly, preventing the company from meeting 125 units/day production goals
  • Slow product cure required hours of off-line WIP waiting for water shower leak testing
  • Low sealant green strength prevented technicians from continuing assembly after glass installation

Solutions:

The manufacturer, post consultation by the Henkel solutions expert, tested Teroson PU 8590 polyurethant bonder for fixing glass windshield in cabin frame.

First glass primer Teroson 8517H is applied on the bond line areas on the glass and then Teroson PU 8590 is applied to glass edges. The glass edges are then fitted into the cabin frame and pressed into place.

Windshield bonded with Teroson PU 8590 allowed assembly to continue without dislodging glass which was proof of its high strength.

Results:

Bonding with Teroson PU 8590:

  • Cured faster allowing production team to meet increased output goals
  • Minimized costly offline WIP by making it possible to conduct water shower quality testing in < 2 hours
